How Soy Sauce is Made: Feature Fridays

From the time I was a small child curiosity has led me on wondrous adventures and occasionally landed me in trouble. TV shows like Dirty Jobs, This Old House, and How It’s Made are favorites because we get to see behind the scenes, how things really work. Inquiring minds want to know, right?! That same inquisitiveness can be unpredictable with food, it can inspire creativity or leave you unable to enjoy hot dogs (still remember that episode). In the spirit of learning something new every day, I offer these videos on the making of soy sauce for Feature Friday—the first one in a large factory, the second from a small batch company. Who knew fabric was such an important part of making soy sauce? Yep, curiosity satisfied for today. Enjoy!

Are you the inquiring mind type or are you better not knowing?

This is so cool to see! I love knowing all the tiny details that go into making stuff like this, especially when it’s food. I guess I’m naturally very curious and want to figure out how and why things work the way they do. :)
