Thanksgiving, giving thanks

Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. –William Arthur Ward

Thanksgiving—pausing, saying the words out loud, thanking God, is part of who we are. It’s an extension of the daily practice of gratitude that shines the spotlight away from the worries and cares that press in and steal joy. Grace—spoken, given, received—stirs the soul with thankfulness, softening and protecting the heart from envy.

Today, in no particular order, I am thankful for:

  • how my husband makes me laugh
  • friends that call at just the right time
  • how egg noodles remind me of home
  • my health, especially after what I went through last year
  • readers who “get me”
  • long, hot showers
  • random texts and snap chats from my kids
  • a full refrigerator
  • a hot cup of coffee before email
  • freedom
  • a published cookbook
  • kind people
  • sweet nudges from our golden, Silas, telling me it’s time for a break
  • healthy newborn babies
  • the warmth of the fireplace
  • jeans that fit, though I’ll still opt for yoga pants on turkey day
  • God’s faithfulness
  • birds that visit our feeders
  • neighbors we can count on
  • a flexible schedule
  • pie for dessert

And I am ever thankful for you!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I pray your list is long and your heart is full.
